Who We Are
Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Alexandra Hospital is an outpatient rehabilitation program for adults 18 years and older recovering from cardiac events such as heart attack, angioplasty, cardiac surgery. Our program supports patients and their families to learn, make healthy choices and live life to the fullest.
Our multi-disciplinary team includes Internist, Registered Nurse, Kinesiologist, Stress test technician, Registered Dietitians, Registered Diabetes Nurse Educators and a Social Worker.
Who Should Participate in Cardiac Rehab?
If you have had Heart Attack, Angioplasty, CABG, CHF, Cardiomyopathy, Valve Surgery, Unstable angina, Stable CAD or any other diagnosis of cardiac disease within the last year.

- Manage risk factors, including risk of heart attack or other cardiovascular events.
- Control your weight, lower your cholesterol, decrease your blood pressure.
- Increase fitness, endurance and energy.
- Improve your diet and food choices.
- Smoking Cessations.
- Manage medications.
- Reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Do I need a Referral?
Yes, participants do require a referral from physician, or nurse practitioner.

Do I Have to Pay?
The program is free with OHIP coverage.
What to Expect
- Intake appointment schedule with Registered Nurse.
- Blood work will be done on the day of intake appointment.
- Graded Exercise test (stress test) will be scheduled by Registered Nurse.
- Your exercise program is weekly for three months up to five months, if necessary, will start after clearance from our internist. Recommend that participants attend weekly to get the benefit of the program with the expectations the other days you exercise at home.
- Participants schedule their own exercise sessions with the scheduling department; program runs Monday through Friday with different times to accommodate everyone.
- Scheduled appointment with Registered Dietitian for heart healthy diet.
- Scheduled appointment with Social Woker if necessary.
- Exit appointment with Registered Nurse once participant has completed their program.
- Exit blood work will be done on the day of exit appointment.
- Exit Graded Exercise test (stress test) will be scheduled by Registered Nurse.Note: Graded Exercise test (stress test) done at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.
