Special Care Unit

Our Special Care Unit at Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll (AHI), a part of Rural Roads Health Services (RRHS), provides care for patients who need closer observation and specialized support. The unit has four beds and offers a quieter, more focused environment for recovery.

Our Care Team

Patients in the Special Care Unit are supported by a skilled and compassionate interdisciplinary team, including:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Physicians
  • Rehabilitation Team (e.g. Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and other specialists as needed)

Together, our team works closely with patients and their families to provide personalized care, with the goal of supporting recovery and a safe transition to the next stage of care.

What to expect upon admission to the Special Care unit:

You will be cared for by a member of our healthcare team while in hospitals.  Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses provide patient centered care in this area.  All other interdisciplinary members will be part of your care plan as needed.

Our team fully supports and encourages patient participation and involvement in decision making at all stages of their hospital stay.

Visitors

Rural Roads Health Services encourages family centred care.  In the best interests of the patient, we request the following:

  • That families follow instructions given by the nurse or physician with regards to limiting the number or visitors and noise level.
  • That visitors respect the privacy of the other patients and not wander freely through the department.
  • That families have one person to act as their spokesperson to decrease confusion and make communication between team members and family members easier.

Location

We are located on the third floor as part of our Medical/Surgical In-patient Care Area.
